Description

“Anxious People: The No. 1 New York Times Bestseller, now a Netflix TV Series” by Fredrik Backman is a heartwarming and captivating tale that seamlessly blends humor, compassion, and unpredictability. As the title suggests, the story revolves around a diverse group of individuals brought together by a chaotic event on New Year’s Eve.

When an inept bank robber inadvertently takes a group of people hostage during an open house viewing hosted by House Tricks estate agents, the lives of the hostages intertwine in unexpected ways. Among them are Anna-Lena and Roger, a couple grappling with marital issues, Julia and Ro, anxious parents-to-be, lonely bank manager Zara, and spirited 87-year-old grandmother Estelle.

As the police surround the apartment building, the anxious and disparate group inside find themselves confronting their fears, vulnerabilities, and shared humanity. Through Backman’s deft storytelling, the narrative unfolds with both wit and depth, delving into themes of connection, resilience, and the beauty of human imperfection.

Praised for its insight into the absurdity and beauty of life, “Anxious People” is a testament to the power of empathy and the capacity for redemption. With its unforgettable characters and poignant moments, this bestselling novel offers readers a poignant reminder of the messy, yet profoundly meaningful, essence of being human. Review

Oh my goodness, I sobbed through the last 10 pages of this! You will laugh as well though, hilarious and so poignant at the same time. A diverse group of strangers are held hostage at a flat viewing by a failed bank robber. But it’s so much more than that! I’ll be reading it again and that’s very unusual for me. Can’t recommend highly enough…everyone should read this!
